この本はアイルランド出身でイングランドに住んでいるMark Boyleが一年間をかけてお金を一切使わずに暮してみるというドキュメントをマーク本人が本にしたものです

読んでみるとマークの人柄もあって、まずとても読みやすいというのが印象的です

写真等はほとんどなく、金無し生活入門編みたいにMONEYLESSを薦める本ではありません

マークがこの本を通して投げかけている事はもっとシンプルで、「土地に根付いた根本を理解した生活をしよう、そしてその事を分かち合える関係を築こう」というものでした

いつしか人はお金を作り、物々交換という文化は今では世界の片隅でしか見かけない光景になってきました
マーク風に言えば、たかが紙でもそれがお金とわかっていれば、誰もトイレットペーパーの代わりにはしないでしょう、という事です


サバイバルというよりはこの脱社会的なマークの試みというのは、むしろ精神的苦痛の方が大きかったようです

殺到する取材陣には何度も何度も同じ様な質問を受け、友人にも知人にも何度も同じ事を説明しなければいけない、結局マークの事を理解してくれるにしても、それぞれが納得のいく理由が必要だと言わんばかりなのです

ただマークはとても勇敢な人で、真冬の寒さにもそれらのストレスにも負ける事はありませんでした

結果どのようになったかというのは、是非実際にそれぞれ皆さんが本を手にとって確かめてみて下さい、マークのメッセージに気付かされる人も居るでしょうから


これから日本では夏のシーズンになり、ちょっと贅沢な遊びとしてオートキャンプ等を楽しむ大人達が沢山居ますが、そんなものはエゴでしかありません

きっと広大な草原に出ても裸足で駆け回ったり、原っぱに寝転んだりする事も忘れてしまった大人達の遊び方なのです

その土地土地に根付いた生活、遊び方、人生というものを、外で一日中過ごせるこの夏に考えてみるのも良いのではないかと思います
